This is something that I have just naturally applied to my life, not because I am a superhuman, but because I don’t like to waste my time. To me, my time and the energy that I put into things is very valuable.

Know Your Limits - Kai Hernandez

AVOID THE BURNOUT

How do I do this?

By knowing my limits, I’m able to, to make sure that I only use my time for things when I’m in the right zone.

One of the main things to know your limits, is to make sure that you’re not overworking yourself to the point that you’re getting burnt out.

I know that we’ve all experienced this before, once you’re burnt out, it is insanely difficult to get back into the flow of doing things. Sometimes that’ll take a week to get over it, right? Because it just gets hard and then you don’t want to do anything.

What you want to do is you want to find your sweet spots, but you’re not working so hard.

Personally for me, if I’m tired or I’m not in the right mindset, I just won’t do something because I’m not going to do something, when I’m not 100%. Nothing good can come out of that, right?

AVOID WAISTING YOUR TIME AND YOUR ENERGY

You’re going to have to redo it anyway, or it’s gonna take you twice as long as it would take you if you’re doing it in the right mindset, or in the right moments, right.

This is one of the reasons that I don’t work with my daughter around, because, oh my gosh, I would have to do the same thing like 20 times over. And it would literally take me 30 times as long to get something that, like, that’s how crazy it is.

Find your Sweet Spots

You also need to know when you’re able to get into the flow of doing something and flow we talked about back in Episode Number 39. But a state of flow is pretty much when you can just be completely absorbed in something that you, even lose track of time, you forget that you’re even doing something, you’re just so involved in it.

GET IN TO YOUR STATE OF FLOW

You want to know when you’re able to get into that state of flow. And if you’re not able to get into it. Know your limits and know that, okay, this isn’t a time I’m able to do this task. Can I work on something else?

Is it better if I just take some time for self care?

It’s so important to know your limits, so that you’re not wasting your time. The reason that I’m able to work just a couple of hours a week, well, my daughter is asleep or supposed to be asleep. The reason I’m able to do that is because I know my limits.

I know that when I sit down, I need to be focused to work and I know what I need to work on. That’s the only reason that it works.

Make a Plan

At the beginning when I first started and didn’t have much direction, it was so painful. It was so hard to try to do all of these things all the time, with no idea no like real solid plan, and I had no idea what my limits were because everything was so new to me.

So your action step for today is to take a look at the things that you’ve been doing.

Whether you’re overworking yourself to the point that you’re getting burnt out.

If you’re working when you’re not able to get into a state of flow, find what your limits are, and then plan your work around those limits.

You’re going to be able to work in less time because you’re working when you are able to get into that state of flow, and you won’t get burnt out as easily. So that’s your extra step today and tomorrow we’re going to be talking about how you can fit 12 months in just one hour.
